Latest dates for your diary. Tetsuro Nariyama is the Chief Technical Director of the Japan Aikido Association (JAA). This new book (Available from mid July) describes the practice Aikido Randori, from the basics to application, along with an explanation of the underlying principles and a clarification of the historical and theoretical foundations of competitive aikido. The result is a detailed work of reference that will not only benefit your randori practice but will improve your level of kata and give you a deeper insight into aikido in general. SHEFFIELD Instructor: Scott Allbright (5th Dan JAA) Scott will cover all 50 of the goshin no kata with the emphasis being on drilling each technique, including weapons suburi work. Nariyama Shihan, 8th Dan and technical director of the Japan Aikido Association will be teaching at two courses in Europe this summer. The first is at the BAA Summer school in Sheffield, held from Thursday 29 July to Sunday 1 August. You can download more information and a booking form here. He will also be training at the Shodokan club in Malaga (Spain) on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd August. More information can be found here. Don’t forget to check out or Shodokan London Facebook page Have you ever thought of trying a martial art? If so then this is the ideal opportunity to start from scratch. This specially designed 6 week course will start by explaining what Aikido is and how it differs from other martial arts that you may know. Over the weeks you will be carefully guided through how to fall properly and the basic body movements that are unique to Aikido. Aikido is a martial art involving a wide range of techniques that can be used to throw or immobilise an opponent and it helps the practitioner to develop fitness, confidence, improve balance and movement. Aikido is suitable for both men & women, as the principles rely on correct execution of the technique rather than brute strength. Open to both men and women our beginners’ courses are held in a safe, well run environment. Our instructors hold BAB (British Aikido Board) instructor licences and insurance, they have all trained in Japan and are graded to Japan Aikido Association (JAA) qualification. Our club is a member of Shodokan UK, and is one of the oldest Shodokan Aikido Clubs in the UK. Beginners courses are an excellent way to try Aikido.
